Turkey
- a country of unspoilt beauty
Turkey is a massive country and has coastline on three sides, covering some 8000
kilometres. The area in which we are based on the Southwest coast is probably
the most beautiful and very unspoilt. The varied and picturesque coastline, as
with most of Turkey, is steeped in history, a lot of it BC. The best, and sometimes
the only, way to explore it is from the sea. The sea itself is full of wildlife
and dolphins, turtles and flying fish are frequently encountered. Although the
climate is hot, while at sea the breeze has a very cooling effect. The winds tend
to build in the late morning and die off by early evening. The stronger winds
are usually in July and August, which is also the hottest time to visit Turkey.
a holiday built around your dreams
From Dalaman airport, the transfer time to Gocek is about 25 minutes. Your holiday
starts here as the journey takes you through a very fertile valley. You climb
into the mountains, where the scenery is breath taking. When you descend, you
catch a glimpse of Gocek, a small village which has built up around sailing. It
is very pretty and an ideal place to start and finish your holiday. There are
many restaurants, bars and shops but it has a family feel to it. "NAUSS" is based
in Port Gocek, a new marina which blends in very well with the environment. The
boats moored there range from multi million pound craft to rowing boats. After
settling in and a cool drink, we will have a safety briefing and plan the route
you would like to take. We realise that everyone's tastes differ, so we try to
give you a holiday moulded to your own requirements. From Gocek you can explore
the many delightful harbours and unspoilt bays. You can swim in clear blue water,
visit the many ancient ruins and dine in small family restaurants, many of which
are only accessible by sea. Alternatively, you can visit the lively harbours of
Marmaris, Fethiye and the Greek islands of Rhodes, Symi and Kos where all the
facilities of a modern resort are available. You can dine on exotic local food
of all descriptions and sample the exhilarating nightlife. Time permitting, you
can sample both.
a typical day on Nauss could be...
A morning swim in the crystal clear waters of a pine clad bay, steeped with ancient
ruins, or a row ashore to explore. Breakfast either on board "NAUSS" or at a local
family run restaurant. Lift anchor and sail or motor towards our next destination.
You are very welcome to become involved in the sailing activities or just lay
back and relax. Drop anchor in a small deserted bay for a swim, snorkel and lunch.
After lunch continue to our evening destination. Once anchored or moored to the
quay, spend time ashore exploring and meeting the locals. You will find Turkish
people are very friendly and sincere. After a refreshing hot or cold shower, get
ready for an entertaining night ashore - a meal followed by drink and conversation
at a local bar or more lively entertainment, depending on the destination.
